openai is aggressively offering discounts of up to 90 percent to lure away anthropic's biggest customers. rippling, replit, and datacamp are among the companies shifting more of their ai spending to openai. replit switched after openai offered over 30 percent off a contract worth over $100 million a year. datacamp ceo jonathan cornelissen said openai's pricing cut his costs by 80 to 90 percent. a us bank with over $7 billion in assets got its chatgpt seats doubled to 500 employees at no extra charge, paying under $7 per user instead of the usual $20 or more. openai's strategy is partly buying market share at the expense of its own margins, but it has also achieved real price cuts through its sol and luna model lines. anthropic's growth slowed from q2 to q3, and both companies face growing price pressure from china.
