reddit's r/opensource community has banned all posts about projects that use ai, were built with ai, or are designed for ai. the moderators published new rules on saturday evening, stating that ai in its current form doesn't fit the open-source community. the new rules also require projects to be at least a year old, actively maintained, and have multiple contributors. additionally, posts from non-english speakers are no longer accepted, as moderators can't distinguish between ai-generated and translated text. critics argue that the rules are too broad and vague, pointing out that even the linux kernel now contains ai-generated code. in response, a rival forum called r/trueopensource has been created, which doesn't exclude ai projects.
